In order to expand greenhouse cultivation in Sakarya and to bring unused greenhouses into the economy, farmers will be given greenhouse cover support.
A cooperation protocol was prepared between the Investment Monitoring Coordination Presidency of the Governorship of Sakarya, Metropolitan Municipality, and Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry for the “Renewal of Plastic Greenhouse Top Covers” project.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Disaster Coordination Center, Acting Governor Ersin Emiroğlu said that with the protocol, they will contribute to value-added greenhouse production to some extent.
Reminding that a wide variety of crops are grown in the city, Emiroğlu expressed his sincere wish that the project would be beneficial for the farmers.
Stating that they will ensure that disused greenhouses are brought into the economy, Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Yüce said, “As the Metropolitan Municipality, we will contribute to the distribution and renewal of greenhouse top cover to our producers with a 20 percent budget. May it be beneficial to our farmers and producers.”
Emphasizing that they will always be with the farmers with the idea that “there is no development without production,” Yüce said, “Greenhouses provide year-round production due to the fact that they are not partially dependent on environmental conditions and climate. In addition to this feature, it increases product diversity and yield and has many benefits such as employment and trading.”
Yüce pointed out that agriculture has an important share in the city economy.
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ali Ulvi Özerdem stated that 60 percent of the project worth 4 million 800 thousand Turkish Liras would be realized with the contributions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality and 40 percent with the contributions of farmers.
